It’s a wonderful life (and school)!

Dear Wood Acres Families,

As Wood Acres celebrates a milestone 40th birthday in 2009, I am taken with the convergence of so many wonderful things happening on our campus.  Wood Acres has grown steadily from a small early childhood school at the corner of Johnson Ferry & Upper Roswell Roads to a spacious, state of the art school educating toddlers through ’tweens.  In fact, we are now welcoming the children of parents who attended Wood Acres when they were just wee preschoolers!

Our decades old reputation for being a very special school is not an East Cobb secret anymore.  With an official invitation from the government of Spain to become an International Spanish Academy, our students will be fully supported in attaining fluency in their native language as well as the other primary language of the world, Spanish.

On the heels of the exciting invitation from Spain, we are also pleased to announce that Wood Acres will be formally reviewed for accreditation in late January by the Georgia Accrediting Commission.   The commission has been impressed with everything we have provided for them, and we look forward to sharing the final results with you in the spring.

Many parents comment on the special feel that Wood Acres evokes, something that isn’t tangible or quantifiable, but very real.  This special feeling is a spark, the genesis of so many of the wonderful things that are happening now…the tremendous generosity of our families for the “Thankful” Baby Food & Supply Drive, the exciting developments with our Spanish program and accreditation and most importantly, the daily support of Wood Acres parents for their students with high expectations and words of encouragement.

It is my hope that you will take this wonderful Wood Acres “spark” with you throughout the holiday season, sharing with all around you what is special to you.  Our students and families are at the heart of the Wood Acres, and we are so grateful for you.  Wishing each of you a very special and wonderful holiday season!

School Zone for The Wood Acres School

Through the continued efforts of Mrs. Thigpen and Mr. Craig Dowdy, Wood Acres will soon be designated as a school zone.  Although a traffic light is not likely in the near future, the school zone will help slow traffic down on Johnson Ferry Road, assisting our families in safely entering and exiting the campus.

Tremendous thanks go out to Mr. Dowdy as well as Mr. Sam Olens!

Wood Acres applying to become an International Spanish Academy

Wood Acres has received an official invitation from Spain!

Wood Acres has been officially invited to apply to become an International Spanish Academy by the government of Spain. The invitation is prestigious in and of itself, but the benefits to Wood Acres students could be extraordinary!

If we are honored with the designation, the sharing of curriculum, teachers and instructional techniques from Spain will benefit our students tremendously.  Wood Aces students are introduced to Spanish beginning in the Three Year Old  Program, are well versed in the language by the primary grades and are attaining fluency by middle school.

There are very few elementary schools who have received this honor, and Wood Acres is very proud!

Many thanks for your referrals!

Many Wood Acres families referred their friends to the Prospective Family Open House held in early November.

The event was a tremendous success with over forty families visiting our campus.  We are very encouraged by the interest in our school this year and look forward to a very strong admissions season.

We thank you so much for talking about our terrific school with other families and hope you will continue to do so!

Welcome back to The Woods!

Believe it or not…it’s time to plan for the 2009-2010 school year!

With the successful launch of  our e-statements, we will be utilizing email to send the entire registration packet to you.  The choice of your child’s academic home is such an important one, and we are thrilled that each year you choose Wood Acres as that home!

Once again, we’ve had tremendous interest in Wood Acres and every desk will be filled for the next school year.  Be sure to secure your child’s spot by returning the registration materials promptly.  Also, remember to complete an application for siblings who will be entering the Two or Three Year Old Program next fall.  Wood Acres families receive priority placement for our very popular early childhood programs!

Your only homework in January is to complete the registration forms and return them to the school office in person.  Then, relax!  You’ve reserved your child’s placement at an amazing place to learn… The Wood Acres School!

Thank you for your outstanding generosity

Wood Acres families are known for their commitment to education as well as their generous spirit.  Many thanks go out to every family who supported the “Thankful” Baby Food & Supply Drive.  We received a tremendous outpouring of love and concern for our community with contributions of baby food, diapers, cereals, baby wipes and so much more.

To top off the contribution to  area charities, Mr. & Mrs. Thigpen will be adding their own contribution to that of our Wood Acres families in honor of the arrival of their grandson. Baby Logan will be a cherished gift to his family and has already contributed to his extended family in our community.  Thank you so much!
