Class Update December 4 Week

Greetings Families,
Happy December! Here are some details about this week:
*Next week, we will be asking you to discuss family traditions at home and then share them with the class. This will help the children better understand our Family Culture unit in Social Studies. A letter will go home tomorrow with more information and suggestions.
For Tuesday, Dec. 12 = one everyday tradition
For Wednesday, Dec. 12 = one holiday tradition
For Thursday, Dec. 13 = one special occasion tradition
*This week we will get to watch a band and chorus performance by the grammar and upper school students. How exciting!
*We have one available Mystery Reader spot open for this Friday, December 8th if anyone is interested. Please sign up via Shutterfly.

Curriculum Notes for the Week:
*Morning Work: The children will take a few minutes to practice activities with the letter L. After morning work, the children get to enjoy some playtime with their classmates.
*Happily Ever After (The Elves and the Shoemaker): We will continue our unit this week by retelling the story, identifying same/different words, and coloring in items.
*Letter (L): This week we will read books with letter l sounds. We will identify upper and lowercase l, determine pictures that begin with l, and create a ladybug and lollipop.
*Science (Healthy Habits): This week we will discuss appropriate times to wash our hands.
*Social Studies (Family Culture): We are talking about what we like to do with our families. We will make a class chart of fun times and illustrate that activity.  
*Math: (Unit 2 = The Shape of Things): This week we will begin our unit by reading aloud “The Trees of Mrs. McGee. The children will draw shapes and color the booklets. We will also discuss triangles and rectangles.
