Weekly Update December 18th, 2017

Dear Parents,

What a week! We have been busy catching up from our half day on Friday and snow day on Monday. I’m happy to report we are all caught up and ready for the last week before break.

This week we will be taking a break from our Journeys textbook. We will be doing a study of Christmas Around the World, and learning about how different countries celebrate the holiday. Lots of fun information ahead-be sure to ask your children about what they have learned!

Important Notes:

-No Spelling list this week!
– Our Holiday Party is Wednesday, December 20th from 2-3. Lots of fun games and activities ahead!
– Early dismissal Thursday, December 21st at 1:00. There is no after school Treehouse
-We are meeting with our Book Buddies on Thursday to watch a special 5th grade performance and enjoy some hot chocolate!

Math: We are wrapping up our Chapter 5 unit, and will be having a test on Wednesday, December 20th. Please remind children to keep practicing their addition and subtraction facts. We have also been working on a poem to help with borrowing and regrouping. “More on the top? No need to stop! More on the floor? Go next door and get 10 more. Numbers the same? Zero is the game!” Please have them practice as it truly helps them to remember if and when they need to borrow!

History: We are chugging right along with our Americans Move West unit. We talked about the Oregon Trail this week, as well as the Pony Express. Next week, we will learn about what it was like to settle in the west.

Science: We are going to be taking a break from our science unit and will begin again when we return from break!

As always, thank you for all you do! Please let me know if you have any questions!
