January 3-5

Dear Parents,

Again, I hope everyone enjoyed their breaks! I know it was hard to come back into the routine, but we had a nice, short week back together. We have a busy full week ahead next week, so rest up over the weekend.

Save the Dates:
January 15 – MLK Holiday; No School

January 18 – Report Cards; Biography Books Read

January 28 – Winter Open House; 2-4 P.M.

Important Notes:
The Living Museum: Students should be reading/starting to read their biographies for our big living museum book report. Hopefully you’ve reviewed those packets and jotted down the upcoming dates for this project. It’s a big one, but oh so fun! Please don’t hesitate to ask questions 🙂

What’s Going on in our Classroom:
Reading: We are continuing to read Kate DiCamillo’s The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane as a class. It is a personal favorite of mine, so I hope you’re reading with your child at home and following along. Remember to record your 20 minutes nightly in your logs.

Grammar: Next week we will review articles a, an, and the.

Spelling: Our spelling words for next week are: journey, movement, beneath, reflection, uncertain, intelligent, whiskers, unpleasant, wardrobe, leather, designed, preferred, requested, responsible, existence, ceiling, neighbor, surprised, vacuum cleaner, and miraculous. Please check in their blue take home folders for our new spelling homework system. Two spelling options are due Friday and students will be tested on these words Friday.

Vocabulary: Unit 11 words are: approach, approve, glory, magnificent, meek, prompt, revive, tradition, watchful, and wreckage. Please feel free to use the online website here to review or play games for this unit. Students will be tested on these words Friday.

Math: We will be skipping around in our math workbooks a bit. I don’t want students to lose their factual knowledge, so we will move ahead with division. Please continue to practice these facts at home.

History: Our Viking unit will continue. A test date will be announced soon.

Science: There will be a skeletal system test on Thursday, January 18. Study guides will come home next week.

Enjoy the weekend,
