Weekly Update from Mrs. Pumphrey (Week of Jan.8th)
Dear Parents,
I have such a wonderful class this year! Your children work hard and are so polite and respectful to me and each other. We are hard at work writing in cursive, reading, researching, problem solving, studying, memorizing, learning, creating and having fun! Read on to see more about the details for next week.

Notes Pages due: Friday, Feb. 2nd
Final Report due: Friday, Feb. 9th
Visual Display due: Friday, Feb. 16th
Living Museum: Friday, Feb. 23rd
Field Trip: Third grade will travel to The Synchronicity Theater in Midtown to see the play, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane on Feb. 15th. Each class will take two parent chaperones. If you are interested in chaperoning please let me know. If we have more than two parents volunteer, I will chose by lottery. Thank you!
What’s Going on in our Classroom:
Reading: We are making progress reading, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillo, and working on our comprehension packet.
Spelling: Spelling homework has changed! Students need to turn in two spelling options each Friday. These are free choice, and we will no longer have the spelling packet. Words include: journey, movement, beneath, reflection, uncertain, intelligent, whiskers, unpleasant, wardrobe, leather, designed, preferred, requested, responsible, existence, ceiling, neighbor, surprised, vacuum cleaner, and miraculous. Test Friday.
Vocabulary: Unit 10 words include: actual, brink, chill, conquer, fortunate, fury, intend, pattern, vibrant, and wit. Test on Friday.
Writing: We will begin researching and writing about Martin Luther King, Jr. as a class.
Math: We continue to work on multi digit multiplication problems and problem solving, and will also begin our unit on geometry.
Grammar: We continue our study of adjectives.
History: Our Viking unit will continue. A test date will be announced soon.
Science: Skeletal System test on Thurs., Jan. 18th. Study guide will go home next week.
