Hello all!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a great “snow” day! This week we introduced the letter N. We also started a new literacy unit called The Nightingale. The children really enjoyed this story.

Tuesday started the week off with coloring in a sheet with a nest on it. This helped the children recognize upper and lower case N’s. Once snack was over we introduced the story The Nightingale. We discussed background information and then the children got to listen to the story. We had our P.E. special where we started our gymnastics unit. The kiddos had such a fun time with this. When we returned from P.E. we worked on a nut cutout sheet. We had to identify pictures starting with the letter N. Then we put our fine motor skills to work by cutting and gluing. Once lunch was over, we worked on a math unit. We read the story The Trees of Mrs. McGee. Mrs. McGee grew trees with some seeds she found. The trees had leaves with all different shapes! The children had to fill in the missing shapes!

Wednesday we worked on coloring in a necklace. This helped us to recognize upper and lower case N’s. It also helped us to identify some of our color words. Then we went to Art where we started working on ripping newspaper. This week was part 1 of 3 weeks! I can’t wait to see what they create! When we returned from Art, we decorated neck ties. They will all look so grown up once they dry and they can wear them! Once we finished lunch, we talked about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We discussed that he helped to change our world from unfair laws. The kids seemed really interested in learning about him.

Thursday we started off our day with our Spanish special. During Spanish we finished coloring a packet about our family. Then we went to Music where we learned some rhythms. Next week we will get to play the drums with the rhythms Mr, G taught us! When we returned from Music, each child told us what they wanted for our world to be a better place. They are displayed in our classroom because they are so meaningful! We ended the day with a math lesson. The children had to pull out different shapes out of a bag. Then they had to tell us what they are!

We ended the week on Friday coloring in a newt! The children had to recognize upper and lower case N’s. Then we worked on a nest cutout sheet where the children had to identify pictures starting with the letter N. Boy is our cutting getting great! Thank you to Connor’s mom for coming in to read to us! We sure do appreciate it!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Happy Martin Luther King day!

Thank you,
Ms. Porto
