Newsletter Ms. Porto’s 4 year olds

Hey all!

I bet you are all glad we were finally back in school this week! I know I sure was! This week we worked on the letters J and K. We also finished up our Happily Ever After Unit, The Nightingale.

We started off the day on Monday with coloring in a jar. The children had to recognize upper and lower case J’s. They also had to identify color words. When they finished, we worked on number recognition. The children had to count the number of jelly beans and match it to the correct number. Once recess was over, we went to our Spanish special where we counted to 15! We also played a game. When we returned from Spanish, each child got in their own special spots in the room and made a jellyfish. This was a hard task because we used our pincher fingers to tear the paper instead of using scissors.

Tuesday we worked on coloring in a kite. This helped the children recognize upper and lower case K’s. Once we finished, we worked on tracing lines. This helped us work on our fine motor skills! Then we had our P.E. special where we worked on balancing and walking like certain animals! Boy what fun!

Wednesday we worked on coloring in a jack-in-the-box. We had to recognize upper and lower case J’s and also identify a few color words. Then we worked on recognizing K’s by circling them. We went to our Art special where we continued working on a snowy owl. I can’t wait till they are all finished! When we returned from Art, we decorated kites! Everyone was so creative!

Thursday we started off the day with our Spanish special where we worked on a number booklet! Then we went to Music. We sang, danced, and even got to play with Mr. G’s drums! When we returned from Music, we worked on coloring in kites that had color words on them. This was a hard task, but we did it! Then we worked on a jar cutout sheet where we had to identify pictures starting with J. These kiddos sure are improving on their cutting! I’m so proud of them!

We finished off the week on Friday with a kangaroo cutout sheet. The children had to identify pictures starting with the letter K. Once we finished our morning work, we went to one of the kindergarten classes and learned about the super kids! The children were memorized by the students! They listened so well to the kindergarteners talk about the super kids! After recess, we worked on coloring in our Nightingale cover sheet. Once we finished, it was time for a mystery reader! Thank you so much to Aanika’s mom for coming in to read to us! We sure do appreciate it! Once we finished lunch, we went to computer lab. We watched a video about the letter J and got to play games on the smart board! We love computer class!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thank you,
Ms. Porto
