Ms. Portos’s 4’s newsletter
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This week we introduced the letter U. We also started a new literacy unit called, The Tug of War.
We started off the week on Monday with recognizing hearts that are the same. Once we finished with that, we had our morning circle and snack. We celebrated Lee Ellen’s birthday! Happy Birthday Lee Ellen! Then we went to Spanish where we continued to work on our number book. When we returned from Spanish, we made our very own umbrellas! Everyone did a wonderful job on this! They are displayed in our classroom!
Tuesday we worked on coloring in an umbrella. This helped us to recognize upper and lower case U’s. It also helped us to identify a few color words. Once we finished our snack, we were introduced to our new story The Tug of War! The children really enjoyed learning and listening to this story. We went to our P.E. special where we worked on our gross motor skills. We leaped like a frog and we held a ball between our legs and hopped like a kangaroo! When we returned from P.E. we made our very own unicorns! Their horns are so shimmery!
Wednesday our morning work consisted of coloring in a unicorn. This helped the children recognize upper and lower case U’s. It also worked on identifying a few color words. Once we finished snack we read a story called, The Love Monster. When the book was complete, we were able to make our very own Love Monsters just in time for Valentines! They look so beautiful displayed in our classroom. Then we had our Art special where we continued to work on our snowy owls! They should be done by next week! When we returned from Art, we colored in the undersea life. Then we painted over our beautiful coloring. Ask your children about crayon resist!
Thursday we had our Spanish special where we finally finished our number book! Then we went to recess. When recess was complete, we went to our Music special where we sang and danced. Mr. G let us play his big base drum! When we returned from Music, we listened to the story The Tug of War. Then we answered the questions on the back of our story book.
We ended the week on Friday celebrating Groundhog’s Day! The children painted their groundhog’s home and then cut their groundhog out! Once we were finished with that, we worked on a U cutout sheet. The children had to identify pictures starting with the letter U. They all did great! Then it was time for our Mystery Reader to come! Thank you so much to Margo’s dad for coming in to read to us! We sure do love having Mystery Readers come in!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
