Class Update March 12 Week

Greetings Families,
We hope you enjoyed the weekend. Our classroom is decked out in clovers in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day! Here are some details about this week:

*Friday, March 30 is an EARLY DISMISSAL day. All children need to be picked up by 1:00. There will be no Treehouse services that afternoon.
*Remember to download photos from Shutterfly periodically. After the school year ends in May, the site will be inaccessible. It’s been such a joy to capture moments of your little ones in our classroom this year!
*Thank you for sending in love letters to your child last week. The sentiments you shared were so special, and we can assure you that each child had a smile on his/her face after hearing them.

*Please save these dates:
Date Event Place Time
Friday, March 16 St. Patrick’s Day Snack after lunch
Friday, March 30 Early Dismissal/NO Treehouse 1:00pm
April 2-6 Spring Break

Curriculum Notes for the Week:
*Morning Work: The children will take a few minutes to practice activities with the letter W. We are also working on printing our first and last names. After morning work, the children get to enjoy some playtime with their classmates.
*Happily Ever After (Peter and the Wolf): We will begin our unit by listening to the story, showing understanding of the story, identifying the color white, and underlining objects.
*Letter (W): This week we will read books with letter W sounds. We will identify upper and lowercase W, determine pictures that begin with W, make a windmill, and learn facts about weather.
*Science (Letter of the Week): Now that we have finished our months-long unit on the human body, we are ready to move on to learning about animals and the world around us. We will be learning about weather for the Letter W.
*Social Studies (Leadership): We are discussing leadership this week. What is a leader, what is a good leader, how does one become a leader? We will talk a little about using our voices/votes as leaders for things we want in our classroom (such as a certain snack or a literacy video on a rainy day). We will also enjoy a visit from Harrison’s mom as she presents a story and activity about the Persian holiday of Norooz – the First Day of Spring and the New Year.
*Math (Unit 4/Measure Up): This week we will continue our unit by comparing the capacity of containers and temperatures of weather.

If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.
Dr. Elizabeth Hill and Ms. Hannah Frary
