Ms. Porto’s 4’s newsletter

Hello all!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break! I know we sure did! This week we reviewed the letters I and Z. We also continued to work on our literacy unit The City Mouse and the Country Mouse. We will finish this unit on Friday.

We started off the week on Monday by celebrating City Day! We had such an amazing day! We visited the city of Atlanta in our classroom! We went to the aquarium where we fished. Then we went to the High Museum where we painted a city on a canvas! We went on a scavenger hunt around our campus to find zoo animals, and last but certainly not least, we played baseball on our black top “stadium”.

Tuesday we practiced writing the letter Z for our morning work. Then we went to P.E. where we learned some square dances for Country Day on Friday. That was so fun and we rocked square dancing! Once P.E. was over we made beautiful zinnias! The children did such a wonderful job so we decorated our classroom with them! At the end of the day we had a math lesson where we talked about objects that are heavy and light. We talked about the fact that even though an object is bigger it can still be lighter.

Wednesday we identified pictures that start with the letter Z. Then we went to Art where we finished our flowers by the artist Georgia O’ Keeffe. We also started a new flower project in Art today. When we returned from Art we worked on figuring our where the insect is located! This helped us to work on position words. We had another math lesson where we worked on drawing people who were short and tall! We all did great with this!

We started off the day on Thursday with our Spanish special. We learned about certain pieces of clothing. We learned how to say shirt, pants, and shoes in Spanish. Then we were able to run around outside for recess. Once recess was over, we headed to Music where we sang and danced with Mr. G. We learned a new song, Take Me Out to the Ballgame! Our class sure rocks out during Music! When we returned from Music we got in our own special spots in the room and made iguanas. They all turned out great!

We ended the week on Friday celebrating Country Day! What a fun day! We learned how to plant a seed and we even got to plant our own lima bean! Then we had a fun dirt snack out of pudding and oreos! We even found a worm in our snack! We got to talk about and taste apples in Ms. Manning’s room. Then we learned how to make butter in Ms. Smith’s room. Then we went to Dr. Hill’s room where we learned about farm animals! We even got to see a real rooster! We ended Country Day by showing off our square dancing skills! This was the best day ever!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thank you,
Ms. Porto
