Ms. Porto’s 4’s newsletter

Hello all!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This week we introduced the letter Q. We also continued to work on our literacy unit The ABC Book.

We started off the week on Monday coloring in a queen. This helped the kiddos work on recognizing upper and lowercase Q’s. It also helped us identify a few color words. Since it was a rainy day, we had some extra play time inside. Then we each got in our own special spots in the room and made a queen! The kiddos did a great job on these! After lunch was over we were able to go to our Spanish special. During Spanish we made a human dressed in clothes since we have been learning about clothing!

Tuesday we worked on coloring in a quilt. This helped us recognize upper and lowercase Q’s. It also helped us identify a few color words. Since testing is over for the older kids, we were able to go to P.E. During P.E. we did relay races! This was so much fun and we got a lot of energy out! When we returned from P.E. we worked on writing the letters Q and N. The q was for animals or things that are quiet and the n was for animals or things that are noisy. We all did such a great job! Once lunch was over we had a math lesson. We talked about money! We introduced pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters! This was so much fun!

Wednesday we worked on forming the letter Q correctly! Boy are we getting good at this! Then we went to Art where we continued to work on our flower. I just can’t wait to see them! When we returned from Art, we worked on identifying pictures that start with the letter Q. Everyone did such a wonderful job at this! Once lunch was over we had another math lesson. We talked about money again! The kiddos even got to buy objects from our class store! We figured out different ways we can make 9 cents! This was so much fun!

Thursday we started our day with our Spanish special. The children finished their project! They made a self portrait of what they were wearing! All of the clothes are labeled in Spanish. Everyone did a wonderful job! Then we were lucky enough to go outside before the rain hit! Once recess was over we went to our Music special. We sang and danced and even got to sing happy birthday to Connor! When we returned from Music we made our very own quilts. Then we worked on our color words by coloring in a quilt! Boy do these quilts look colorful!

We ended the week on Friday working on color words and recognizing upper and lowercase Q’s! Then we got to play outside for recess! When recess was over we worked on identifying pictures that start with the letter Q. Then we had a math lesson. We read the story Jenny Saves The Day. The story was about a girl named Jenny and her friend. They wanted to buy some stickers. They had to figure out what coins they needed to use. The children did a great job on this. They even get to keep their own story books. Right before lunch we had a mystery reader! Thank you so much to Ben’s mom for coming in to read to us! We love our mystery readers!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thank you,
Ms. Porto
