Save the Date:
Constitution Day: Monday, September 17th at 9:30 a.m. Please join us on the quad! Bring a camp chair and your Starbucks! Third grade will be signing the Pledge of Allegiance.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: September 24th and 25th.

Important Notes:
Book Report: Cereal Box Book Reports due Sept. 28th.

Third Grade Wish List: We are in need of the following items: 4 large containers of Clorax wipes and 2 boxes of granola bar snacks. Please email me at spumphrey@woodacresschool.org if you are able to help. Thank you!

Constitution Day: I need a volunteer or two to bring a treat for Constitution Day snack, preferably something red, white, and blue. Please email me if you are interested in helping out. Thank you!

What’s Going on in our Classroom:
Reading: We are reading Frindle, by Andrew Clements and paying particular attention to answering comprehension questions, and providing a proof page for our answers. Our read aloud book is, City of Ember, by Jeanne DuPrau.

Spelling: The words are: tropical, island, language, dictionary, vocabulary, shelf, answer, Canada, Ottawa, author, embarrass, delicious, commotion, responsible, troublemaker, fooled, disrupt, questions, creative, nonsense. Homework is due Friday. Test Friday.

Vocabulary: Unit 2 (pages 16-25) words are: aim, aware, defeat, drift, mild, pause, refuse, route, ruin, and solid. Don’t forget to have your child use www.vocabularyworkshop.com to study for the test on Friday.

Math: We are working on addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Grammar: We will be working on dictionary skills.

Writing: Look for our finished Gooney Bird Greene inspired writing pieces written in third person.

Science: Students continue to explore properties of matter in the lab. We are exploring the concept of volume.

History: Students have begun their unit on Canada.
