Weekly Update January 13, 2019

Hello Everyone,

We had a great Marvelous Moments Party on Friday. The class loved snuggling up in their pj’s with blankets, pillows and stuffed animals!

Important Notes:
-January book reports are due Thursday, January 31st.
– Report Cards go home Thursday, January 17th. Please sign and return envelopes as soon as possible!
– Monday, January 21st is a holiday. There will be no school
– Open House is January 27th from 2-4PM

This Week:
Language Arts: Reading We will begin this week with realistic fiction Mr. Tanen’s Tie Trouble

Vocabulary Strategies: We will be working on homographs. Words that are spelled the same but have different meanings.

Comprehension Skills and Strategies: Story Structure and Understanding Characters

Phonics: Base Words and Endingd –ed, and -ing

Math: We finished our Chapter 5 subtraction unit with our Chapter 5 Test on Tuesday. We will be moving on to Geometry next, starting off our chapter with solid figures and faces, vertices and edges. This is a tough unit and therefore supplemental worksheets will be going home with homework for extra credit as well as extra practice.

History: We are moving right along in our unit! Our class loves learning about the pioneers and ways they started to move west. This week we will learn about the Oregon Trail and gold rush.

Science: We are finishing up our GAP unit on The Earth’s Surface studying the layers of the earth as well as the rock cycle. We will be completing a study guide next Tuesday, with a test on Monday, January 28th.
