February Fun 2-9-19

Hello Everybody,

We had another very busy and productive week which is what happens from now until May. Here is a run-down of what we did and what’s to come. Enjoy.

In Reading, we finished reading our novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and I would say that everybody loved the entire story, the ending, and the accomplishment of reading this great novel. We are finishing up the novel study this upcoming week with a take-home quiz on Wednesday, a vocabulary quiz and spelling test on Thursday, and a book test on Friday. A writing assignment will begin this week and should be done by Friday, so everybody can read and admire our students’ hard work during the Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Speaking of Parent-Teacher Conferences, please make sure you have contacted your homeroom teacher regarding the day and time for your student’s conference. Thank you.

We have completed Grammar Unit 5 on Pronouns, and everybody did quite well on the test given yesterday. Grammar will resume after conferences because our students need a break from grammar and we must focus on completing the novel study, so we can move towards writing our OWN book after conferences are done.

We are nearly done with Chapter 5 in math which means that there will be a Check Your Progress take-home quiz on Monday, Chapter Test on Tuesday, and a Cumulative Review Test on Wednesday. With constant practice, I think all of our students are ready for these assessments. Because everybody has a great understanding of Division, we decided to teach two math chapters at the same time which means we can continue with long division and review how to measure in a variety of ways.

What I love about teaching at Wood Acres is that we welcome all people and their cultures, traditions, and customs into our daily lives. On Monday, the Naddaf family will teach us about the Chinese New Year and help us create a cute decoration for the Year of the Pig. Happy New Year and all of the best for 2019!

We do have our own cute traditions, and we will show how much we care for one another by exchanging Valentines with both classes on Thursday, February 14.
I must thank Sandy Piper for wrapping our shoeboxes, so we can finish decorating them this week. I have attached a list of ALL 4th graders’ names, so everybody is included in this fun way of celebrating our friendship with one another.

Don’t forget to turn in the paperwork needed for our field trip to Jekyll Island. In just five weeks, you will be hearing about ALL that we did during our three days away from home. Very soon, we will have a question-session soon to help settle the butterflies that are starting to pop up. If you have any questions about the trip, please do not hesitate to ask Mr. Ovbey or me because we want your butterflies to settle down too.

Monday, February 18 is Presidents’ Day which means we have a day off to remember how lucky we are to live in this great country founded by men who knew that the USA was one awesome place and still is.

Wow, there is a lot going on right now and I promise it won’t slow down for a while. I hope you enjoy the rest of this weekend, and I’ll see everybody on Monday.

Yours truly,
Cheryl Leagan
