Upcoming Stuff in 4th grade

Hello Parents,

Well, the circles have been bubbled in, the tests have been handed in, and we are done testing for the year. I must say that ALL went extremely well, and I was quite impressed with our students’ attitude toward this past week. Thank you for having your student rested, fed, and on time each day this week. The snacks were perfect and are gone.

Last week, we worked and almost finished on our five paragraph essay and research paper, but on Monday, we are back to our regular schedule which is something I am really looking forward to as we now head toward the end of the school year which is so hard to believe. All subjects will resume and our days will be normal again. Please keep an eye on the red homework folder for upcoming assignments and announcements from teachers and staff as well. Thank you very much.

On Friday, April 26 is Field Day. If the weather cooperates, we will meet at Fullers Park for a day of friendly competition, super sportsmanship, and good-ole fashion fun. We will definitely keep you informed about what to expect and all that is needed for one of the best days of the school year at Wood Acres.

On Saturday, April 27 is our Cool Girls Accessory Drive. This is the second community outreach program that we support in 4th grade. For the last 15 years, I have been volunteering my time to the Cool Girls organization based here in Atlanta. Cool Girls is an after school program that encourages and empowers young girls from DeKalb and Fulton counties and teaches them that they are capable of changing their lives for the better. As a teacher, I will do or help out in any way I can to get young girls excited for school and ready for their future no matter where they live. School is definitely cool for everybody!

Every summer, St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church hosts a Cool Girls “Back to School” Shopping Day for about 200 Cool Girls, and I am one of the co-chairs who organizes this amazing event. For many years, Wood Acres has been very supportive with this event by hosting an accessory drive or by donating backpacks filled with items for school.

Next Saturday from 9-12, I am hopeful that our fourth grade families and many Wood Acres families will stop by and donate items that will be placed in the “Boutique” for the Back to School Shopping Day. The items that the Cool Girls love to shop for are books, jewelry, PJs, beauty supplies, hair accessories, room décor, card games, board games, sports equipment, fun school supplies, and purses. As you do your spring cleaning and come across any of these items or find them in local stores, please consider donating them next Saturday during our drive. I promise you, every item will be enjoyed by the Cool Girl who selects it during our “Back to School” Shopping Day.

I know how valuable Saturday mornings can be, but if your student can help at our Accessory Drive between 9:00-12:00, I would greatly appreciate it. As the items are dropped off by our friends and families, I will need our students’ help in sorting the items into the appropriate boxes that I will have that morning. Please let me know or have your student tell me before Friday if your student can help me. Trust me, the Cool Girls and I thank you very, very much.

I hope you have a lovely holiday weekend, and I am really excited to see everybody Monday morning.

Yours truly,
Cheryl Leagan
