7G – Middle School Science – Discovering the Periodic Table through Puzzles, Games, and Labs

Puzzled? Dmitri Mendeleev was for a bit as he strategically placed the elements on the Periodic Table. To help seventh grade students view the Table in the same manner as Mendeleev and his cohorts, students spent the first day of school generating strategies to place various puzzle pieces together to create a final image.

To better understand the strategies scientists used to place the elements within a table framework, students then moved through a series of chemistry labs centered around the chemical and physical properties of elements.

Students also spent time in class applying their knowledge of the Periodic Table through Periodic Table Battleship. They positioned and located their ships using challenging information such as mass numbers, subatomic particle numbers, isotopes, and much more. They are truly chemists in the making!
