Weekly Update October 28th, 2019
I hope this email finds you all well! We’ve had another great and busy week in second grade. This week, as a thank you to soldiers, we took the time to write letters for those soldiers who will be home with their families this Thanksgiving. I have made a copy of their letters and will be posting them on the back bulletin board. Be sure to take a look! In addition, I had mentioned to the class that my two younger cousins, new Marines, will not be home with their family this year. They were very sweet, and asked if they could write a letter to them too! Truly, the sweetest group of second graders!
– Our October Party is Thursday, October 31st. It will be from 2:15-3 PM. Students are allowed to bring in their costumes. We will change into them before the start of our party so they do not get ruined throughout the course of the day.
-Book Reports are due Tuesday, November 5th. We are working in class on the Plot, and Theme. I am conferencing with each child, and speaking with them about these two pages, and sending home rough drafts of the work we have done. You may use these to complete the final draft in their flipbook. Please let me know if you have any questions!
-Our Thanksgiving Feast will be Thursday, November 21st.
In two weeks we will begin preparing for the Thanksgiving performance. Along with practicing our roles and speaking parts in the play, we will learn more about the history of Thanksgiving. I will be sending along more information about performance parts and dress suggestions for each part. Please let me know ASAP if you will not be here for the feast so I can make adjustments to our play performance. You are cordially invited to attend our Thanksgiving performance which will be held in our classroom at 11:00am on November, 21st. Following our performance and pictures we will have our Thanksgiving Feast, around 11:30. I will be working to organize and set up the meal plan. We will need more help in providing food for the meal, and a sign up genius will be coming your way soon! Thank you in advance for all of your help!

Math: The class did a wonderful job this week with surveys, bar graphs, and tally marks. Next week, we will be working on mean, median, and mode, as well as understanding data. We will have a check progress midweek. Please also continue working on those math facts!
History: We are wrapping up our Geography unit! Next week, we will talk about the “Southern Cone” of South America, and students will be going home with a study guide. Their history test will be Wednesday, October 30th.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
