4th Grade Weekly Update Week of Dec 16th

ELA: We will finish reading our 2nd quarter novel study, Rules. We will test on Thursday over basic comprehension, the characters, and a comparison between our first novel study, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and Rules. Our areas of focus when creating this paragraph will be a strong topic sentence, a summarizing closing sentence, and detailed supporting complex sentences. Students will be given a study guide and can also refer to any old comprehension question worksheets that have been completed within the unit.

History: On Monday, students will be introduced to a Reader’s Theater that summarizes our Revolutionary War unit, called Unite or Die, How 13 States Became a Nation! Each student will play the roll of a state representative or narrator, and we’ll look at how these states came together through disagreements and challenging times to create the United States of America.

Math: We will continue Chapter 5 over division this week; focusing on the relationship between multiplication and division as inverse operations, missing numbers in number patterns, and number patterns using division.

Science: Last week, students created vocabulary flashcards for Investigation One and Two. Then, their homework assignment was to study the flashcards on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, there was a pop quiz to see if students are studying as instructed and if they are doing it effectively. These were sent home in Friday Folders. Please review these with your child and have him or her study the flashcards over the weekend if they did not do well! Those week, we will continue to study sound energy!

Other: On Friday, parents are welcome to join us for our holiday party at 11:00. Please let me know if your child will not be here the last day or if you are planning on leaving earlier than 11:00. Winter Wishes gift exchange letters were sent out last week, along with a favorites shopping list. Gifts should be brought in wrapped with a clue on a gift tag as to who the gift giver is. Please let me know if you have questions about the gift exchange!
