Elementary School Home / Academics / Elementary School A Foundation to Build a Lasting Education The Wood Acres elementary curriculum focuses on the foundations of reading and mathematics in kindergarten. We build upon this base through 4th grade. Our students also get to learn about science and social studies and enjoy Spanish, art, music, technology, and STEM. Our private school focuses on helping children build strong learning skills step by step. With a mix of exciting lessons and hands-on activities, we make sure every student has a solid foundation for their education. We help our students grow and get ready for a bright future. A Look Into Our Classrooms Kindergarten Choosing the right kindergarten is an important decision for families. We are proud to say that Wood Acres is a wonderful place to start your child’s learning journey. Our program combines an advanced curriculum with fun specials to help kids grow in every way—academically, creatively, socially, and physically. What makes our school so special is our amazing teachers, small class sizes, and a program that balances learning with fun. Every day is full of exciting moments, like learning something new, celebrating a birthday, losing a first tooth, or enjoying the 100th day of school. At Wood Acres, children are challenged to do their best and enjoy the magic of growing and discovering. It’s the perfect place for Kindergarten! 1st Grade First Grade is an exciting step for both children and parents. At Wood Acres, our students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and discover that learning happens everywhere—not just in the classroom. What makes our school special is the caring, experienced teachers, small class sizes, and lessons that follow our research-based curriculum. Every day, our 1st graders get to experiment, create, invent, explore, and learn in fun ways. With a mix of strong academics, creative activities, and individual attention, Wood Acres is the perfect place for your 1st grader to grow and shine. 2nd Grade During 2nd grade, our students grow into independent thinkers. This is the year when they start explaining how they know what they know, building confidence in their problem-solving skills and taking pride in their work. They also begin to take on more responsibility for their learning, which helps them feel accomplished and prepared for bigger challenges. They dive into hands-on projects, explore new ideas, and learn to work both independently and as part of a team. Whether they are experimenting in science, crafting creative stories in English, or exploring big ideas in math, every day is filled with discovery and growth. Our 2nd grade students do not just learn facts—they learn how to think, ask questions, and solve problems in new and exciting ways. With a perfect mix of academics, creativity, and personal attention, Wood Acres makes 2nd grade a year to remember and a key step in each child’s learning journey. 3rd Grade Third grade is the pivotal year when our students take their knowledge of reading and apply it to longer texts and throughout all aspects of the curriculum. In math, they move from quick quizzes on math facts to solving multi-step problems. This is also the year when children start working as a team with their parents to stay on top of homework and learning. Science is full of hands-on experiments in the lab. History and geography help our students learn about unique places around the world and here in the United States. Our 3rd grade students also practice staying organized with fun challenges like keeping their desks tidy and managing their time for homework. The curriculum gets more exciting, and the learning gets even deeper, making 3rd grade a wonderful year. 4th Grade During 4th grade, our students use what they already know to tackle bigger challenges, think in new ways, and explore exciting topics. They become confident learners, practicing decision-making, and learning how to manage their time on their own. This is the year when technology becomes an important tool, as students use laptops to dig deeper into their lessons. In the spring, they get the chance to apply their learning outside the classroom with their first optional overnight trip. This is a big step toward independence and adventure! At Wood Acres, 4th grade is a year of tremendous growth, helping our students feel ready for the next step in their learning journey. 5th Grade The first few months of 5th grade serve as the capstone learning experience for elementary school, while the end of the year introduces students to the adventures of middle school. It’s a special time when our 5th graders feel a bit like the “big kids.” They start getting ready for new challenges ahead. This year includes a strong curriculum, amazing teachers, and activities that help our students stretch their skills. They even take part in our leadership class to learn how to become role models. Our students start to experience switching teachers for some subjects, but still have the comfort of their home base teacher for core classes. Laptops are also part of their learning tools. In the spring, students can go on an optional overnight field trip to enhance their learning. Special Programs Learning doesn’t stop with our core subjects. Our students take part in a variety of special programs, including Spanish, STEM, and service learning. Learn More
