Dedicated Leaders & Expert Teachers

At our school, everyone works together to make sure students and families feel happy and supported. Our leaders, staff, and teachers are all here to help. Our teachers love sharing what they know, whether it’s about reading, music, or outer space! They make learning fun and exciting, helping students explore new things and find what they love. Together, we create a special place where students can grow and learn every day.

From the Head of School

Laurie Mazor

Dear Future Wood Acres Parent,

Welcome to Wood Acres.

For 57 years, it has been our privilege to educate children in a community that challenges and cares for them, one that values a strong curriculum, excellence, home-school partnership, and the joys of childhood.

When you walk onto our campus, you feel and see a zest for learning and community. We sit on nine acres with trees and grass galore. The outdoor spaces, including our Quad, Compass Rose, outdoor classroom, playgrounds, field, and sandbox, lend themselves to outstanding academic and social opportunities. Visitors often share how beautiful the surroundings are, and how happy and engaged the children and faculty seem with one another and with every guest who visits.

When visitors talk to our teachers, they feel a sense of partnership. Their excitement for teaching and learning is infectious. They are collaborative and work to ensure every student thrives at every level. When alumni come to visit, they often share that their teachers at Wood Acres were the best and that there are no teachers like those at Wood Acres. Our faculty carry a deep responsibility to deliver solid, meaningful instruction while caring for the whole child and family. This has been the Wood Acres way since 1969. We take this legacy very seriously.

Our curriculum offerings leave just as strong an impression. We intentionally backward map our curriculum, looking at what our eighth-grade graduates need to know, see, say, and do, and threading that through all programs and subject areas. Children run to their classes and teachers each day, eager for the important work to be done. Spanish conversations, essay writing, book reports, math problems, science experiments: whether it’s the day-to-day work of strengthening the foundation or the applied celebration of learning, all of it is part of a Wood Acres education. This is a distinct advantage students carry throughout Pre-K through 8th grade, and it allows them to thrive in any private, public, magnet, charter, or academy high school they choose. I often hear from area colleagues that our students don’t just have a strong foundation; they have a strong sense of self and are prepared for the rigors of high school and college.

Every May at our 8th-grade graduation, our students give a speech to their families and our community (some of it in Spanish) about their time at the Woods. The level of reflection these young adults can communicate about their experience is unlike any other. Children share heartfelt memories and lessons in such thoughtful ways, showing us how grateful they are for their years at Wood Acres. How lucky we are to be part of something so special.

If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind education, we would be honored to partner with you. Please reach out to us for a tour of our campus and to experience the magic of a Wood Acres education for your children and a community for your family.

Sincerely,
Laurie Mazor
