All great journeys begin with a single step.

Head of School, Emeritus

As I sit down to write a letter of welcome and introduction to The Wood Acres School, I realize that this letter is a wonderful metaphor for who we are and what we have done at this unique school for over 50 years.

We are nestled on nine beautiful acres in the heart of East Cobb and proud of our legacy of educating decades of children in our community from two years old through eighth grade. Our dedicated teachers are known for sharing their passion of teaching and learning with children.

We model leadership and have high expectations for student excellence. We value recess, traditions, celebrations, childhood, and community. Students are challenged with an academic accelerated curriculum, strong emphasis on the integration of STEM learning experiences, commitment to teaching Spanish as a second language, all while developing a strong sense of self and character. We use technology purposefully and recognize that time with each other is priceless. Wood Acres students care for their friends, teachers, and community.

Above all else, we treasure our students and their families. We celebrate their successes and work diligently to solve any problems or concerns. We never compromise on academic rigor and excellence, yet we cherish childhood and all the fits and starts that come with an ever-changing young person. Wood Acres IS the place to be!

I am delighted that you are interested in The Wood Acres School and urge you to visit our campus. We take pride in sharing with you, through this website, our vision of a quality independent school experience. Your choice of a private education for your child clearly indicates to us the value you place on teaching and learning.

The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn…

Perhaps Ralph Waldo Emerson was imagining a not-so-little school tucked away from the distractions of everyday life where children have the freedom to grow, learn, and enjoy being a child. We hope you will visit us soon and experience The Wood Acres School for yourself.
